…know what you want – part 2

So how has the past week been going for you?

Last week I invited you to think about something you want for yourself and to ask the Universe for it.  Perhaps you wrote about it in a journal, or you meditated on it, maybe you prayed or maybe you took a more direct route – you shouted it out loud from a rooftop or an open window.  Maybe it wasn’t quite that dramatic at all.  Perhaps you just thought of something after reading my blog and then forgot all about it.  All you actually needed to do was to decide on something you wanted and own that decision.   Whatever method you chose to own that decision doesn’t matter – just know that it worked just fine…

unless …

you did something …

that I used to do …

all the time …

(and sometimes …

I still do it), and that is …

to cloud your decision with judgments, worry or justifications that mask guilt.

As you know, from reading last week’s blog A lot can change in a matter of days if you know what you want, I made a decision to write a book and to surround myself with a strong support team, but this time I did not cloud my decision at any time and the Universe delivered my support team – pronto!  Three NY Times Best Selling Authors, their teams, contacts and resources, and 11 future best selling authors.  There they all were – my teachers, my peers and someday soon – my equals!  In return for such speedy service – I acted on it – by getting my heinie on a plane to California – pronto!

And what happened there immediately exceeded my expectations.  It happened immediately, before I met all of my teachers and peers and in the smallest and most profound ways – and it had nothing to do with their knowledge, experience or wisdom (or maybe, it actually had a lot to do with their knowledge, experience and wisdom – hmmmm?).

Here is what happened.

I arrived at the hotel around noon even though we weren’t expected to meet until around 4:30PM.  I was so excited I decided to poke my nose into the meeting space to see if anyone was there and meet them.  I met Karin – a member of Janet and Chris Attwood’s team.  I said hello and just shared that I was so excited I couldn’t wait to meet everyone and see the space we would be in – Karin was warm and inviting and graciously managed my overzealousness.  When I returned to my room, flowers and chocolate were delivered with a handwritten note signed by our hosts welcoming us – “Wow” I thought, “I am going to enjoy the flowers and the chocolate but I will cherish this note forever”.  It seemed like such a reward – a gift for elevating who I decided to “hang” with while I embarked on a new way to serve others – through a book.  It made me feel that the potential impact of a book that I could write for my target audience would at least be equal to the amount of support I was already experiencing and it was all starting with a beautiful location, graciousness, flowers, candy and autographs – SWEET!

When 4:30PM arrived, all the  future best-selling authors began making their entrance into the meeting space – everyone very warm and welcoming and talkative – the handshakes and glances were most genuine – it was exciting and wonderful.  Once the authors and their team arrived they began teaching us immediately but there was no content and there was no handshakes.  There was hugs – not “MWAH, MWAH” kiss both cheeks or a distant embrace hug, these were long, warm hugs (say that slowly in your mindlong-warm-hugs), the kind you get from someone who loves you when you haven’t seen each other in a long time – when you have been missing each other.  I immediately felt that they were missing us in their lives as much as I was missing them in my life.  I got their intention for the bond they were dedicated to creating with us immediately – immediately!  I thought this must be what it feels like to buy a Rolex watch at Cartier vs. a $30 watch from the local drug store or jewelry shop in your home town.  It was a moment in life to celebrate vs. a task I would check off my list of “to-dos” from my business plan.  I have not felt that profound a bond with a group before.  The fact that it was lead by some of the top thought leaders in my field made it even more special.

Did you ever have a moment when you realized you were witnessing something that doesn’t happen often in a life span?  I had that kind of moment a lot over the 3 days our group was together and I was eventually overwhelmed by it – and I will tell you about what I witnessed and about my overwhelm “break-down” next week.

Until next week, think about what you do and how you convey to the people that you serve that they matter to you – that you are truly dedicated to serving them – especially when you are their master and they are your student.   hmmmmm.  I too am going to think about this one.
