Is Your Job Synonymous With Pain And Suffering? Say “YES!”

March’s blog posts are all about recovering from job burnout.  You can heal and feel clarified, confident and convicted again – it is possible!  Here’s how…


If you are feeling burned out (as evidenced by your chronic exhaustion, royal crab ass attitude, and frustration over never feeling like you can get anything accomplished – at least not without battling miles of red tape and tolerating the unpredictable whims of those with more authority and power than you) – then you probably got there unwittingly.  No one actually thinks “Ya know what would be cool?  I’d love to fight uphill battles all day long for the benefit of people I think are unworthy and unappreciative of my efforts – all while dragging my ass – wouldn’t that be great!?”


While we may not think we chose this scenario for our life – we did.  Here’s how it happened…

Chronically believing that…

  • things will be tough (do you feel restricted by lack of support and/or resources?)
  • met with resistance or harsh judgment (does it feel like everyone around you believes they know better than you how to do your job?)
  • not appreciated anyway (besides the promotion or pay you deserve – do you struggle to remember the last time someone said “great job!”, “thank you”, or even just a “hey, you look pretty today”?)


…has in fact manifested that very scenario.  Do this long enough and you are well on your way to burn out.  Remember, we create what we believe.


The remedy for this way of being is not a vacation, new job, new boss or lottery winning – it’s not even more sleep!  Actually, it’s time to WAKE UP and consciously develop your emotional awareness.  Strengthening your immunity to burnout is a conscious process.  This month I introduced you to my 3 STEP process that can help you get there:


STEP #1 – realize what you are thinking and feeling 


STEP #2 – care for yourself AND others (or maybe it’s better said as for others AND yourself) 




STEP #3- just say noYES! Show favor for what you want – not what you don’t want.


Let’s look closer at STEP #3.


STEP #3 offers you an alternative to believing that your situation will never get better or to asking yourself “What’s the point?” in the face of situations that seem draining.


Step #3 is all about taking action in favor of what you want.  It starts when you stop believing that what you want is impossible or several steps/events away from being real – that one step/event leads to another and each step/event means something separate about the probability of you getting what you want.


Instead – believe – better yet – KNOW that what you want is here the second you decide you want it and that each step/event is the perfect unfolding of your ability to experience what you want as fully as you can imagine experiencing it.  Step 3 requires you to let go of your idea of HOW what you want has to arrive to you.


To get WHAT you want (what’s in your heart) – surrender your HOW (what’s in your head)


Stop putting yourself on the hook for HOW and start putting yourself on the hook for WHAT – AND – for noticing (and saying “YES!” to) opportunities that will bring you in closer alignment with WHAT you want.  Is your job synonymous with pain and suffering?  Say “YES!” from the heart vs. the head to get you what you want with less pain and suffering.


As STEP #3 requires you to get clear on your WHAT and say “Yes!” to it, it also requires you to say “No” to what you don’t want.  We may think this is easy but it’s often harder than getting clear about WHAT, letting go of HOW, and saying “Yes!” to opportunities that align with our WHAT.  The truth is we see things that happen that seem counter to what we want as evidence that what we want won’t happen.  It’s not evidence – instead, it’s just an opportunity to say “No thanks”.  Simply saying “No” vs. making stuff mean we can’t have what we want, reinforces that we’re serious about what we want and anything less than that is not ok.


When stuff doesn’t go your way, are you inclined to question or doubt yourself?  Do you buy into the formula:


R = ND  (Resistance = NO DICE)?


Shift your view about what seems like resistance – it’s just an opportunity to say “No” and to reinforce your connection with what you want – to NOT SETTLE!  It’s ok to notice every doubtful thought in your head – thank your head for that thought!  When you encounter a doubtful thought – tell your head “Thanks for the thought and we’re going to go with what’s in my heart anyway”.  Doubtful thoughts are like your employees – they work in your head and they believe their job is to protect you – they see all new thoughts that come from the heart as a threat.

A + B = R


Ask + Believe = Receive


ASK for what you want (not what you don’t want)

BELIEVE it’s possible – because it is!


RECEIVE opportunities that will bring you a more and more vivid experience of what you want.  Say “Yes!” to everything (every idea, offer, request) that comes your way that you recognize  could bring you closer to what you want.


This formula has nothing to do with doing anything.  No hard work required!  It manifests from clarity of what you want and belief.
